The Concert Chorale moves smoothly between styles, and this December is no exception as they tackle Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria and Timothy Amukele’s What Sweeter Music. The story of the birth of Christ is familiar. Vivaldi’s (second edition) contemplates the significance of God’s incarnation in the figure of his son through the grandeur, dynamism, and richness of the classic baroque style. Fast forward a couple of hundred years, and Amukele fuses various styles to breathe new life into the Christmas story through a mix of new music and traditional carols. His multi-movement cantata features historical biblical characters we know and love, including Mary, Joseph, Herod, Simeon, and Elizabeth.
